Requirements for Teaching Artists
- Strong artistic background in music, drama, movement, storytelling, or puppetry
- Minimum of three years experience as a performing artist or Teaching Artist
- Must be willing to work in an interdisciplinary environment
- Have experience working with young children
- Must have a car and be willing to travel within DC/MD/VA area, including Baltimore
- Be professional in demeanor, appearance, and approach
- Complete successful personal interview and classroom audition
- Must attend a full week of training and complete 2 classroom residencies within the first year
Job Summary
- Teaching Artists are placed in 7-week residencies partnering with preschool and kindergarten teachers. Sessions are held twice a week in classrooms of 3 to 5 year olds.
- Required paperwork associated with each residency, including lesson plans and evaluations, must be completed.
- Teaching Artists are independent contractors — amount of work is not guaranteed.
- The number of residencies assigned annually varies according to availability and location.
