Internship Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this a paid internship?
A: Yes. Interns are paid a stipend to offset housing and transportation costs.
Q: When do the internships start? A: Exact start and end dates are determined based on individual interns’ schedules. Fall interns usually begin at different times in September or October, spring interns begin at different times in January or February, summer interns begin at different times in May or June.
Q: How long is the internship? A: All internships are 12 weeks in length.
Q: What if I have a summer vacation planned? A: Although it depends on specific department needs, occasionally an intern may take a planned vacation at some point during their internship. Vacation plans must be approved prior to the beginning of an internship.
Q: Do I need to submit a different application for each internship I’m interested in? A: No. You can apply to multiple positions with one application. Please indicate in your cover letter which positions you would like to be considered for.
Q: Can I apply online?
A: Yes. All applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their application materials via email. Please submit your full application to
internships@wolftrap.org.
Q: Is there an application form? A: No. The Wolf Trap Internship Program does not have a specific application form for you to fill out. A complete application consists of a cover letter, resume, two letters of recommendation, and two writing samples or three portfolio samples.
Q: When will I know about the status of my application? A: Wolf Trap will confirm receipt of application materials via email. From this point, applications will undergo review from hiring supervisors. All interns will be notified via email approximately one month after the application deadline. Please make sure that
internships@wolftrap.org is on your safe list of emails, so that our emails to you are not blocked.
Q: Will I be interviewed? A: After the hiring supervisors receive applications, they decide on whom to interview for the internship. Not every candidate is granted an interview.
Q: I live out of town and cannot come for an interview. A: Candidates may have a phone or in-person interview for internship positions.
Q: What are writing samples? A: Writing samples give us an idea of your writing style and your ability to convey an idea in writing. We encourage you to submit a sample of writing that demonstrates your best work. Examples include: articles, research papers, business letters, press releases, etc. Creative writing samples are not accepted. Please limit each submission to three pages in length.
Q: Is housing provided? A: Interns must secure housing on their own, although some guidance is provided in this matter.
Please note: African American and Hispanic/Latino students who qualify for the internship program may receive housing and local transportation support during their internships. These opportunities are made possible through generous individual, corporate, and foundation support. Learn more about Internship Diversity Initiatives.
