Help produce and promote summer productions for The Wolf Trap Opera Company: one of America’s most prominent career entry programs for young singers. The summer season generally includes three operas, a concert opera, and two recitals spread between two distinctly different venues: the intimate Barns at Wolf Trap and the expansive Filene Center. All productions are performed in the original language with full orchestra and are professionally conducted, directed, and designed.

Administrative Intern
Available summer
You help assist the Director and Administrative Director of Wolf Trap Opera and Classical Programming in the daily operations of the department, which include the coordination and distribution of daily schedules, artist and VIP ticket requests, guest lists, information packets, and more.

• Create supertitles PowerPoint file and prompt book
• Update and manage social networking content
• Compile and edit program materials and text booklets
• Edit other materials related to classical programming

Requirements

• Interest in pursuing a career in opera or classical music administration
• Strong computer skills (Word and Excel)
• Strong communication skills
• Strong organizational skills/ability to multitask
• Familiarity with opera and classical music highly desirable

WTOC Videography Intern
Available summer
Your primary responsibility will be to capture video footage of performances and rehearsals for archival purposes, edit the video for accessibility in the WTOC archive, and create short promotional videos for use on social media sites.
 
Requirements

• Familiarity with the performing arts, dance/theater/opera specifically
• Experience behind the camera
• Knowledge of Final Cut Express

Directing Intern
Available summer
 A valued participant in the rehearsal process, you will assist the directors and stage managers with notating blocking and production documentation, You’ll also need to take detailed notes during rehearsals and convey that information to artists and staff in a sensitive manner.
 
Requirements

Stage Management
Available summer
Assist in running all rehearsals and performances of the Wolf Trap Opera Company, as well as function as an assistant stage manager for productions at The Barns at Wolf Trap and the Filene Center.
 
Requirements

• Experience in musical theater or opera stage management
• Ability to read music
• Knowledge of or experience in opera highly desirable
  

Technical Theater Intern
Available summer
Gain hands-on lighting, scenic construction, props work, and running crew experience as you contribute to the technical aspects of the Wolf Trap Opera Company. Work side-by-side with professional directors, designers, and technicians in the building, mounting, and running two to three operas in The Barns at Wolf Trap during the summer season.
 
Requirements

• Prior experience in technical theater

Scenic/Prop Painting

Work directly with the Wolf Trap Opera Company’s Charge Scenic Artist, designers, and professional scenic painters

Costuming
Available summer
Work directly with the Wolf Trap Opera Company’s Costume Shop Foreperson, Costume Designer, and professional stitchers in costume construction, wardrobe maintenance, and dressing.
