Jazz-story: A History of America’s Music

Ever wanted to know more about jazz but didn’t know where to start? In this 5-part series, Wolf Trap Jazz Trio bassist and renowned music educator Michael Bowie will guide you through back alley blues, smoky clubs of the jazz age, swingin’ syncopations, bebop, and more. Through discussion, listening examples, live performance, and videos, participants will learn how to listen to the music, who its major players are, and why it’s considered the purest expression of American democracy. Before you know it, you’ll consider yourself a hip cat.
