One of the great soul singers of Motown, Knight’s hits include “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” and “Midnight Train to Georgia.”

• When this Motown mogul was only seven years old, she won the top spot on the popular TV show Ted Mack’s Original Amateur Hour in 1952.
• A year later Knight joined her siblings and cousins to create The Pips, and by the end of the decade the group started a very successful tour.
