Celebrate Florida’s rich cultural and natural landscapes through a multimedia presentation with live contemporary dance from renowned choreographer David Parsons and set to the music of Andrew Bird and Tiempo Libre.
Spirit of South Florida will pay tribute to 4 of Florida’s most precious parks: Big Cypress National Preserve, Biscayne National Park, Dry Tortugas National Park, and Everglades National Park.
The multimedia performance will include HD video on an enormous backdrop featuring dancing and scenery captured on-site in the parks, as well as live dance from renowned choreographer David Parsons. The performance will feature a series of dance vignettes interpreting key themes of the four National Parks. Choreographer David Parsons will explore the movement patterns of iconic wildlife (alligators; spoonbill, Anhinga, and egret birds; and fish). He will highlight the recreation available in the wilderness and on the water, and will also honor the resilient spirit of a population that overcomes the devastating effects of hurricanes and celebrate an island park that welcomes Cuban refugees onto American soil.
The first half of the evening will be performed to multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird’s Useless Creatures, with the second half featuring live musical accompaniment from Miami’s own GRAMMY-nominated Tiempo Libre.
