Smooth ’60s-inspired big-band jazz featuring a sultry female vocalist and a sophisticated “sound that is musically tight and always swinging” (Fanfare Magazine)

  • “Equal parts dry wit and dry martini,” Chaise Lounge is a DC-based band comprised of some of the best local jazz musicians: Marilyn Older (vocals), Charlie Barnett (guitar, piano), Gary Gregg (woodwinds), Pete Ostle (bass), Joe Jackson (trombone), and Tommy Barrick (drums).
  • Their newest album Dot Dot Dot (2013) showcases Older’s “perennially slinky, sultry, sexy near-babydoll voice beside five highly talented and letter perfect instrumentalists,” (Folk and Acoustic Music Exchange). The album includes a grooving jazz version of “Cool” from West Side Story and lighthearted originals like a breakup song titled “I Just Want All My Stuff.”
  • Locally, Chaise Lounge has collaborated with the McLean Orchestra, the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, Capital City Symphony, and hard rock/punk band Adam West.
  • Outside the band, Older has contributed songs to several independent films, and Barnett has composed scores for more than 400 TV and theatrical films including music for National Geographic and The Discovery Channel.
  •  “Not only does this crew just keep getting cooler each time out, the retro times have caught up to them, as this is so in the Mad Men pocket that it’s impossible to figure out which end of the retro-neuvo spectrum is which. A throwback to groovy jazz firing up the suburbs, everyone here is so on the money that it’s mind blowing.”—Midwest Record
