The Bobs are well known for their performance of the Beatles’ “Helter Skelter,” earning them a 1984 Grammy nomination and the award for Best Arrangement at the 1992 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards.

The Bobs continue to attract national attention with their acclaimed recordings, semi-regular touring, and TV and radio appearances. Lucy Kaplansky

Kaplansky’s latest album, Over the Hills (2007), builds on her signature brand of dynamic folk rock, featuring sultry vocals, compelling lyrics, and a world-class band comprised of Larry Campbell, Jon Herington, Duke Levine, and noted jazz bassist Stephan Crump. Initially attracted by New York’s burgeoning ’70s folk scene, Lucy Kaplansky got her start as a teenager through performances at Chicago and New York City bars, but put music on the back burner in 1983 when she enrolled in New York University to pursue a psychology degree.

Though Kaplansky eventually opened a private practice in psychology, she still had something to prove as a musician. After heading into the studio with three original songs and several covers in mind, it was the 1994 release of her Colvin-produced debut album The Tide that turned her attention to full-time touring and folk singing. Kaplansky’s second release, Flesh and Bone, (1996) included eight original songs co-written with her husband, filmmaker Richard Litvin, and was met with rave reviews. Her sessions with Red House Records continued with the release of Ten Year Night in 1999, Every Single Day in 2001, and Red Thread in 2004.

Meg Hutchinson

With her lyrical brand of folk-pop, Meg Hutchinson arrives for her Wolf Trap debut in support of her latest album, 2008’s Come Up Full. Throughout her career, she has won awards from the Kerrville Folk Festival, Rocky Mountain Folks Fest, and the Telluride Troubadour Songwriter’s Showcase, among others. She has appeared with artists including Catie Curtis, John Gorka, and Susan Werner. Performing Songwriter describes Hutchinson as “a master of introspective ballads filled with understated yearning and an exquisite sense of metaphor.”

Vega’s list of accolades and breadth of experience is impressive. He has appeared in several feature films, recently finished co-writing an HBO special with Chris Rock, and was the first Latino to host his own nationally syndicated variety show, The Latin Connection.

Mike Larsen
Arriving for his third appearance at The Barns at Wolf Trap, comedian Mike Larsen is known for his easy-going, conversational style, which endears him to his dedicated fans. One of the most sought after comedians working today, Roger K. Mursick has made a name for himself touring night clubs and colleges, opening for legendary recordings artists Ray Charles, Natalie Cole and Smokey Robinson, and as a contributing writer to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. A master of the sardonic, Mursick’s comedy examines the contradicting ironies of life.
