Vienna, VA—Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts presents Grammy Award-winning talent throughout the week of August 11, ranging from jazz and R&B, to Tex-Mex rock. Herbie Hancock returns to the Filene Center in support of his 2008 Grammy Award-winning Album of the Year in River: The Joni Letters on August 11, followed by Mexican-American rockers Los Lonely Boys and Los Lobos on August 12. Blues infused artists George Thorogood and Buddy Guy return to Wolf Trap on August 13, followed by legendary Motown singer, songwriter, and producer Smokey Robinson on August 14. The week continues with hip-hop and blues inspired G. Love & Special Sauce with accompaniment from Australian rockers The John Butler Trio on August 15. August 16 brings S M V The Thunder Tour featuring a trio of world famous electric bass players in Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and Victor Wooten. Finishing the week strong on August 17 is a return performance from America’s favorite surfer band, The Beach Boys.
Herbie Hancock

Grammy Award winner Herbie Hancock graces the Filene Center stage, armed with hit tracks from his latest album, River: The Joni Letters. Hancock is the recipient of the 2008 Grammy award for Album of the Year and the first jazz musician since 1964 to receive this honor. This record also secured a 2008 Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Album. Currently performing his River of Possibilities Tour across the U.S., Hancock will return to Wolf Trap for the first time since 1992. Popular for his long enduring career as a jazz musician, Hancock gained a reputation for fusing different kinds of musical elements with traditional jazz, including R&B and funk. Top recordings to date include “Rockit,” “Call Sheet Blue,” “Manhattan,” and “My Ship.”
Los Lonely Boys/Los Lobos

Currently touring in support of the their July 1 release, Forgiven, Los Lonely Boys return for their second Wolf Trap appearance. Popular for their signature genre of music often referred to as Texican rock, brothers Henry, Joey, and Ringo Garza pull inspiration from country, blues, and Latin music. The group first showcased their unique style of rock on 2004’s self-titled album, which resulted in multi-platinum sales and top spots on the Billboard charts. The group’s single, "Heaven," reached No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart and No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100, crossing over even to the Hot Country Songs chart, where it peaked at No. 46. In 2005 the group won their first Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. 2006 saw the release of their sophomore album Sacred, which ranked among the Billboard Top 200. Attendees will recognize hit songs “Real Emotions,” “Heaven,” “More Than Love,” and “Diamonds.”
Los Lobos
Three time Grammy Award winner Los Lobos returns to the Filene Center stage showcasing tunes from their 2006 album, The Town and The City, which debuted on the Billboard Top 200. Originally known for their covers of Richie Valens hits, Los Lobos have taken their Mexican inspired rock and combined it with blues and jazz for a pioneering fusion of music. Known for their hits “Can’t Stop the Rain,” “La Bamba,” “Anselma,” and “Will the Wolf Survive?,” the group has created a household name for themselves in the music industry. In 1984 the group won a Grammy Award for Best Mexican-American/Tejano Music Performance for “Anselma,” followed by another for Best Mexican-American/Tejano Music Performance with their album La Pistola y El Corazon.
George Thorogood/Buddy Guy

For the first time since 2000, George Thorogood arrives at Wolf Trap in continued support of his 2006 record release, The Hard Stuff. Thorogood is an iconic figure in the blues-rock realm, best known for his work as front man for popular ’70s band George Thorogood & the Destroyers. Taking his inspiration from artists such as John Hammond, Chuck Berry, and John Lee Hooker, Thorogood’s energetic, renegade guitar style is most evident on his self-referencing track “Bad to the Bone,” which has been featured in several films throughout the ’80s and ’90s. Other hit tracks include “Get a Haircut,” “I Drink Alone,” and “Treat Her Right.”
Buddy Guy
Touring in support of his 2008 album Skin Deep, Wolf Trap welcomes legendary blues and rock guitarist/singer Buddy Guy back to the Filene Center stage. Described as the leading inspiration for music icons Jimmy Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Guy was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 by fellow music icons Clapton and Wolf Trap 2008 artist B.B. King. Recognized for his unique guitar performance and distinctive blues style, Guy has accumulated five Grammy Awards, and Billboard Magazine’s coveted Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement. Guy’s name is attached to over 60 album releases.
Smokey Robinson

Known to many as the King of Motown, singer, songwriter, and producer Smokey Robinson returns to the Filene Center stage to perform his celebrated R&B tracks. The past decade has brought a resurgence to Robinson’s career, with a 2006 album that peaked on Billboard’s Top 20 for Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and a 1999 Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement. Originally the lead vocalist for the group Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Robinson contributed to the 1960 smash hit “Shop Around,” which led him into a future of songwriting for The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and Mary Wells, and ultimately to a career as a successful solo artist.
In 1975 Robinson released his first solo album titled A Quiet Storm. The R&B legend re-emerged again in late 1987 with the album One Heartbeat, punctuated by the Grammy Award-winning hit single “Just To See Her.” That same year he became one of the earliest inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1989, Robinson released his autobiography, Smokey: Inside My Life. Robinson’s most popular songs include “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me,” “Mickey’s Monkey,” “Second That Emotion,” and “The Tears of a Clown.”

Returning to Wolf Trap with their unique blend of blues, classic R&B, rap, and hip hop, this Philadelphia-based trio arrives to perform selections from their 2008 album Superhero Brother. Comprised of vocalist/guitarist Garrett “G. Love” Dutton, percussionist Jeff Clemens, and bassist Jim Prescott, the group has released 10 albums spanning their 15-year career, highlighted by hit singles “Baby’s Got Sauce,” “Blues Music,” “Cold Beverage,” “Soda Pop,” and “Communication.”
John Butler Trio
Currently touring in support of their 2008 live album One Small Step, John Butler Trio has built an international following through diverse musical influences and lyrics reflecting a dedication to the human spirit and universal concerns. Inspired by Celtic, Indian, folk, blues, and reggae, the group is made up of bassist Shannon Birchall and drummer Michael Barker along with John Butler on lead vocals and guitar. Since 2001, the band has released five records, including the live double disc Living 2001-2002 which went platinum in Australia, and 2007’s Grand National which charted on the U.S. Billboard 200.
Tristan Prettyman
San Diego native Tristan Prettyman makes her Filene Center debut in support of her 2008 album, Hello…x. The recording demonstrates her introspective lyrics woven into classic country-blues and folk influenced songwriting. Prettyman’s career started when she recorded a song for the surf film Shelter soundtrack in 2001. Soon after, she was making the rounds of the San Diego bar circuit, selling her self-released 2003 EP Love. In 2005 she release her acoustic debut album, twentythree, highlighted by contributions from Jason Mraz and Norah Jones’s guitarist, Jesse Harris.
