Jazz singer Lizz Wright makes her Wolf Trap debut in support of her Top 10 album, The Orchard, featuring the sultry and expressive, “My Heart.” Wright’s music blends soulful, expressive lyrical content and soothing instrumental arrangements, conveying complex emotions that reflect a range of personal experiences. Her first two solo releases, Salt, and Dreaming Wide Awake received high acclaim establishing her as a skilled musician in the jazz world. The Orchard pays homage to her Georgian roots, portraying a lifelong personal journey that led to the development of her musical style. With The Orchard, Wright assumed a larger songwriting responsibility, co-writing eight of the 12 tracks and putting her own interpretive style on classics from Ike and Tina Turner, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Led Zeppelin, and Patsy Cline.

Charming and energetic, the Persuasions are masters of their a cappella craft. Blending gospel, pop, and doo-wop, this five-member group pays tribute to a diverse artist influence from the Beatles to U2 and the Grateful Dead. Since forming in Brooklyn more than 40 years ago, the Persuasions have released more than 20 albums, rich with cover material from the latter half of the century. Possessing the innate ability to transform every cover they perform to sound uniquely their own, the quintet has had a profound influence upon future generations of a capella groups, most notably Boyz II Men and Color Me Badd. Throughout the years, they have performed and recorded with countless artists including Bette Midler, Van Morrison, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle, and B.B. King.

The electrifying violinist from the original Riverdance, Eileen Ivers is regarded as one of the most prominent musicians in the Irish music genre. Her list of credentials and honors speaks to her expertise and popularity: nine-time All-Ireland Fiddle Champion, soloist and star of Riverdance, founding member of Celtic group Cherish the Ladies, and performer with an impressive list of acts including the Chieftains, Al Di Meola, and others. Her innovative approach of playing has transformed Irish music and has earned her deity worthy praise from the New York Times as “the Jimi Hendrix of the violin.” Returning to The Barns, Ivers and her band will display their unique sound of African and Latin percussion and bass, traditional Irish instruments, and soulful American vocals.
