The Hawaiian Celebration Tour provides an evening of traditional slack-key guitar, ukulele, and falsetto vocals from these three renowned artists. Ho'opi'i, Kamakahi, and Kahumoka have appeared together on a series of Grammy Award-winning albums, winning Best Hawaiian Music Album from 2006-2008.
George Kahumoku Jr.
Drawing inspiration from his culture and Hawai'i itself, George Kahumoku Jr.’s Grammy Award winning slack key guitar has been likened to “a gentle Hawaiian breeze.” Kahumoku’s top honors include receiving the Na Hoku Hanohano Award, the highest recognition in the Hawaiian recording industry, and performing for the Queen of England and the Premier of China.
Dennis Kamakahi
As one of Hawaii’s most prolific composers, Dennis Kamakahi has written the famous Hawaiian standards “Wahine Ilikea,” “Pua Hone,” and “Koke’e” among many others. At the early age of 19, his rich voice and superlative guitar skills earned him honors as the replacement for Gabby Pahinui in the acclaimed band the Sons of Hawaii. Kamikahi was the first Hawaiian folk singer to perform at the Kerrville Folk Music Festival and has performed at numerous slack key shows at The Barns at Wolf Trap.
Richard Ho’opi’i
Richard Ho’opi’i is a living legend of Hawaiian music and master of the traditional art form of Hawaiian falsetto. For many years he performed with his brother Sol under the name, Ho’opi’i Brothers. He has received the National Endowment for the Arts Folk Heritage Fellowship, America’s highest honor for traditional artists. His charisma, thick white hair and infectious smile make him one of the most recognizable Hawaiian musicians in the industry.
