Vienna, VA—The Barns at Wolf Trap presents four consecutive nights of diverse live performance ranging from socially conscious folk-pop to contemporary Hawaiian fusion. SONiA & disappear fear open the week on Wednesday, March 18, followed by Battlefield Band and their distinct melding of Scottish bagpipes with a variety of eclectic instrumentation on Thursday, March 19. Wrapping up the weekend are violin phenomenon Lara St. John on Friday, March 20 and Hawaiian crossover group HAPA for a two night engagement on Saturday and Sunday, March 21-22.

In the tradition of Joni Mitchell and Phil Ochs, longtime advocates for equality SONiA & disappear fear incorporate hard-edged lyrics with eclectic world music, creating "surprisingly colorful folk-pop arrangements." (Washington Post) The group’s desire to spread the message of peace is evident in their socially conscious songs combining heartfelt, sensuous vocals and worldly melodies. Featuring songs in Hebrew, Arabic, Spanish, and English, the group’s 2007 release t a n g o reached No. 6 in the Top Ten World Music Albums. SONiA’s activism led her to create Guitars for Peace, a program that delivers guitars to children in war-torn areas and donates a portion of the group’s sales to the United Nations World Food Program.

Returning to The Barns after their November performance, the band continues to remain at the forefront of the Scottish music revival scene with their adventurous sound and eclectic combination of instruments including guitar, keyboard, fiddle, whistle, banjo, bouzouki, bodhran, Highland/small bagpipes, and bass guitar. In 2003 Battlefield Band received Best Live Act at the first annual Scots Trad Music Awards, a testament to their rousing performances.
