Vienna, VA—Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts’ Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods presents 68 family oriented performances Tuesdays through Saturdays, from June 23 through August 8, 2009 at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Situated in a natural, woodsy setting behind the Filene Center, the majestic 800-seat Theatre-in-the-Woods offers a wide range of energetic live performances specially designed for children kindergarten through sixth grade.
Wolf Trap favorite, Grammy-nominated Dinorock kicks off the 2009 Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods season with a playful prehistoric performance showcasing eight wacky dinosaurs from the Mesozoic Era. Other highlights include performances from master storytellers Baba Jamal Koram and Antonio Rocha; Hobey Ford’s Golden Rod Puppets featuring realistic animal puppets called “Foamies”; the return of silly songs by fun-loving Steve Roslonek “Mr. Steve” from PBS KIDS; and the Maryland Youth Ballet as it celebrates its 15th year at Wolf Trap with the world premiere of the brand new production, Caroline Goes to the Rodeo.
Free workshops open to all ages are offered every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday immediately following the 10 a.m. performance. Lasting half an hour, these workshops are an extension of the preceding performance, allowing children to actively engage in music, song, dance, and drama. As space is limited reservations are required. Reservations can be made by contacting the National Park Service at (703) 255-1824.
