Riders in the Sky

$30
Known as one of the hardest working bands on the scene today, this quartet of musicians has performed over 5,000 shows and released 30 albums complete with a rich collection of cowboy/western song covers, original works, and comedy. Likened to legendary “singing cowboys” Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and Tex Ritter; Riders in the Sky is best known for their classic Western cowboy song, “Back in the Saddle Again” and humorous originals like the ballad “The Salting of the Slug.” Averaging one album release per year throughout their 30-year-plus history, Riders in the Sky have won two Grammy Awards for Best Musical Album for Children for 2001’s Woody’s Roundup Featuring Riders in the Sky, a companion album to the soundtrack of Toy Story 2, and for 2003’s Disney/Pixar film Monsters Inc.: Scream Factory Favorites.

Founder’s Day Celebration
Friday, October 17, 2008 at 8:00 p.m.
$35
Recognized as one of the world’s the most sought after chamber-music groups, Eroica Trio takes the Barns stage in commemoration of Wolf Trap founder Catherine Filene Shouse during the Foundation’s annual Founder’s Day Celebration. Bursting onto the scene in 1997, the Trio's self-titled debut CD featuring works by Ravel, Benjamin Godard, a commissioned arrangement of the Gershwin Preludes, and Paul Schoenfield's Café Music, was awarded NPR Performance Today's “Debut Recording of the Year” and featured in Time Out New York's “Top Ten Recordings” of 1997.
To date, the trio has released seven recordings under Angel/EMI Classic Records, resulting in a long list of Grammy-nominated material. Fueled by a mission to change the current face of classical music, this all-female ensemble aims to alter the misperception of a male dominance in their field’s artistry. Eroica Trio performs the Beethoven Triple Concerto more frequently than any other trio in the world, but counterbalances certain old-school selections by offering an American or world premiere during each new season. Aside from a demanding and rigorous touring schedule, the trio has been featured in countless magazines and cable access television specials including Elle, Glamour, Vanity Fair, ABC's The View, and CNN's Showbiz Today.

$20
Following the digital release of the January 12, 2008 The Jon Carroll & Love Returns concert at The Barns at Wolf Trap this past April, Jon Carroll returns to the location that so expertly captured his Grammy and Wammie Award-winning sound for a much anticipated follow up performance. A Washington, D.C. native with a musical career spanning more than 30 years, Carroll drew initial fame from his role as an integral member of Starland Vocal Band. At age 18 in 1976, Carroll became a two-time Grammy Award winner with the group, for Best New Artist and Best Arrangement for Voices for Starland’s No. 1 hit single “Afternoon Delight.”
Since then, Carroll has continued recording his own compositions and performing on the keyboard with locally and nationally renowned acts including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Rodney Crowell, Eddie From Ohio, and the Dixie Chicks. His most recent venture, Love Returns (2006), marks his first solo release in more than 10 years and garnered him seven Wammies in 2007, adding to his already impressive list of awards.
