Wolf Trap’s Annual Holiday Sing-A-Long takes place Sunday, December 3, 2006, at 4 pm at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. This season, The United States MarineBand will again lead the audience in traditional Christmas carols and Hanukkah songs. The performance will be conducted by Captain Michelle A. Rakers, the first female Assistant Director in the history of the UnitedStates Marine Band. Also on stage, Kim Pensinger Witman and Peter Zimmerman direct audience participation and a choir of more than 400 members representing vocal groups from across the Washington, DC area. Admission to the 2006 Holiday Sing-A-Long is free and no tickets are required. Gates to the Filene Center open at 3 p.m and attendees are encouraged to arrive early. Please note the Metro shuttle bus will not be running for this event. Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be gratefully accepted at the entrance for Toys forTots.

The Holiday Sing-A-Long began in 1968 when Wolf Trap’s founder, Catherine Filene Shouse (1896-1994), invited local church choirs to sing Christmas carols and share in holiday cheer. Since then, it has evolved into a packed house at the Filene Center featuring a multitude of volunteer singers from community churches and choral groups rejoicing in the company of hundreds of area families. Audiences and chorus alike bring their own bells and candles and participate in a “Jing-A-Long,” during which the audience will use their own bells to join in on “Jingle Bells,” and a traditional performance of “Silent Night,” accompanied by a picturesque candlelight procession exiting the Filene Center.

The Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts is a nonprofit organization founded in 1971 by Catherine Filene Shouse (1896-1994) that presents and produces a full-range of performance and education programs in the Greater Washington, DC area, as well as nationally and internationally. Wolf Trap is home to two performance venues, the Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, and The Barns at Wolf Trap. It also programs and operates the Wolf Trap Opera Company and year-round education programs for children of all ages. The Foundation’s activities are principally operated from the new Center for Education at Wolf Trap. Located in Vienna, Virginia, the Center is a national, arts-in-education resource center for children, parents, educators and performing artists.
