Vienna, VA—Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts and education institution, has four major fundraising events scheduled for 2009 to benefit its renowned arts and education programs, including the Wolf Trap Opera Company and the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts. In disadvantaged communities across the country, Wolf Trap Institute Teaching Artists work with educators to harness the power of the arts; nurture the basic life and literacy capacities of 0 to 5 year olds; and promote creativity, problem solving, and self-confidence during critical stages of a child’s development.
Saturday, May 16, 2009, “Wine at Wolf Trap” will feature a five-course wine and dinner event, filled with epicurean delights prepared by Chef Shannon Sheffer of Design Cuisine. Among her many culinary credentials, Chef Sheffer also recently prepared the inaugural lunch for President Barack Obama. The event includes 95-point wine pairings by Evo Bistro, a live auction, and a spirited discussion led by Emil de Cou, NSO @ Wolf Trap Festival Conductor, on how music has been scientifically found to affect our palate’s perception of different varietals.
In partnership with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Annual Wolf Trap Ball will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009 on the Filene Center Stage, the second largest theatrical stage in North America. To coincide with the 20th anniversary celebration of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the elaborate settings and decorations at the black-tie event will feature a “Freedom without Walls” theme. The 2009 Wolf Trap Ball is co-chaired by Wolf Trap Foundation Board member Mary E. Arnold and Wolf Trap Associate Board Member James C. Nesbitt.
Wolf Trap’s 12th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament, Monday, October 19, 2009, at the Golf Club at Lansdowne, will feature participation by celebrity athletes, business and cultural leaders from the region, and some of Wolf Trap’s biggest supporters. Held on the Robert Trent Jones, Jr. course, the tournament concludes with a 19th hole celebration, dinner, silent auction, and tournament awards. A golf clinic will be offered before the tournament, led by a certified PGA teaching professional. Packages for the golf tournament may be purchased at different levels with special benefits accumulating at each. Wolf Trap Foundation Board member Alan Kelly chairs the tournament.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural family-friendly 5K Run for the Arts and Howl-o-ween Fun Run, area runners and families can eagerly anticipate this year’s event, taking place Saturday, October 24, 2009. Starting at the world famous Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, the scenic 5K route loops through the rolling hills of surrounding neighborhoods before ending back at the Park. Organized to help children learn the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and appreciation of the arts, the 5K run welcomes competitive athletes, families, and children. Wolf Trap will also offer a one-mile fun-run, costume contest, live entertainment, and activities for children. Family passes and team rates are available.
