Inside the Opera

One hour before each opera performance at The Barns, there’s a chance to get a glimpse behind the scenes right next door at The Center for Education (served by the same parking lot as The Barns).

Kim Witman fleshes out crazy opera plots, treats you to a preview of scenic and costume designs, leads you through a few musical excerpts from the opera, and entertains all questions!

Join us this season to find out…

  • What happened at the disastrous premiere of Verdi’s first comedy?
  • What is that odd guitar-like instrument in the corner during Alcina?
  • Why do directors “update” the settings of operas?
  • Where did we find the best singers this year?
  • How in the world can we do Strauss at The Barns?
  • Just how hard is it to sing Ariadne… or Bacchus… or Zerbinetta?
  • What’s with all the crazy gender-bending in these Handel operas?
Come Inside the Opera at 7 pm for all evening performances and at 1 pm for matinees.
