Wolf Trap Opera Company (WTOC) InternshipsAvailable: Summer
The Wolf Trap Opera Company is one of America's most prominent career-entry programs for young singers. Its intensive 12-week summer season generally includes 2 fully-staged operas and 2 recitals at The Barns at Wolf Trap and 1 opera at the Filene Center.
All productions are performed in original language with full orchestra and are professionally conducted, directed, and designed. Opera Interns must have their own transportation and be willing to work the long hours that a production schedule requires.

Directing
Job Description
- Participate in the rehearsal process
- Assist the directors and stage managers with notating blocking and production documentation
- Take notes during rehearsals and convey information to artists and staff
Requirements
- Interest in pursuing a career in opera stage direction
- Experience in musical theater or opera production
- Ability to read music
- Knowledge of or experience in opera highly desirable
Administrative
Job Description
- Assist the Director and Administrative Director of Wolf Trap Opera & Classical Programming in the daily operations of the department
- Compile and edit program materials and recital text booklets
- Edit other materials related to classical programming
- Coordinate and distribute daily schedule
- Coordinate artist and VIP ticket requests and guests lists for opera performances
- Compile information packets for artists
- Other projects as required
Requirements
- Interest in pursuing a career in opera or classical music administration
- Strong computer skills (MS Word and Excel)
- Strong communication skills
- Strong organizational skills/ability to multitask
- Familiarity with opera and classical music highly desirable
Stage Management
Job Description
- Assist in running all rehearsals and performances of the Wolf Trap Opera Company
- Function as assistant stage managers for productions at The Barns at Wolf Trap and Filene Center
Requirements
- Experience in musical theater or opera stage management
- Ability to read music
- Knowledge of or experience in opera highly desirable
Technical Theater
Job Description
- Contribute to the technical aspects of the Wolf Trap Opera Company, including hands-on lighting, scenic construction, props work, and running crew
- Work side by side with professional directors, designers, and technicians in building, mounting, and running the season's operas at The Barns at Wolf Trap
Requirements
- Prior experience in technical theater
Scenic/Prop Painting
Job Description
- Work directly with the Wolf Trap Opera Company's Charge Scenic Artist, designers, and professional scenic painters

- Prior experience in scenic/prop painting

Costuming
Job Description
- Work directly with the Wolf Trap Opera Company's Costume Shop Foreperson, Costume Designer, and professional stitchers in costume construction, wardrobe maintenance, and dressing
Requirements
- Prior costume shop or equivalent experience
