Established by an Act of Congress in 1798, the United States Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Its mission is unique—to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. The Marine Big Band consists of 10-15 musicians on saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, and drums. Made up of members of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, the Marine Big Band programs feature jazz and classic big band favorites by such artists as Billy Strayhorn, Harry James, Count Basie, and Benny Goodman as well as progressive and contemporary jazz, swing, funk, blues, ballads, and even pop music.
Wolf Trap will host community healthcare workers and volunteers and educators for this complimentary performance in recognition of their heroic efforts over the past year.
