Sting, Wilco Among New Artists Added to Wolf Trap Summer 2017 Season


Additional shows announced for summer season at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts

  • Sting, Wilco, Lionel Richie, and Dashboard Confessional with The All-American Rejects take the stage this summer along with dozens of previously announced chart-topping artists – including Mary J. Blige and John Mellencamp

  • Wolf Trap’s Young at Arts initiative invites families to introduce their children to the performing arts by offering one free youth ticket for each adult ticket purchased to select performances – including Puccini’s Tosca, Carmina Burana, Pilobolus, The Tenors with the National Symphony Orchestra, Asian Youth Orchestra with Sarah Chang and Gustavo Dudamel and the National Youth Orchestra of Venezuela

Vienna, Virginia (April 6, 2017) – Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts announces new Summer 2017 performances at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, including additional acts on the Filene Center stage, the complete Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods schedule, and a promotional events schedule. A complete press kit, print-ready photography, and a chronological calendar are online in the press room, with newly announced shows notated. Ticketing information is below.

“Wolf Trap was conceived as the ‘People’s Park’ – a cultural haven that offers something for everyone – which is why the summer season is almost unimaginably eclectic. Nowhere else can you hear TLC, Sting, and Gustavo Dudamel – all in one week. And while the roster of top-notch artists changes from season to season, the experience fans have of hearing their favorite artists, surrounded by loved ones, on warm summer nights in our beautiful National Park, is timeless.”  

New acts added to the Filene Center season include two nights with Sting, Wilco, Lionel Richie, Dashboard Confessional with The All-American Rejects, Lifehouse and Switchfoot, stars of the hit CMT series in Nashville in Concert, Il Divo, YES featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin & Rick Wakeman and more.

Other favorites return to the stage including the B-52s, Kenny Loggins, and WAR with Los Lonely Boys. Additional debut acts include Michael Bolton, Rick Springfield and Richard Marx, and The Ambassador: Jimi Hendrix –a special tribute concert honoring Jim Hendrix’s 75th birthday and the 50th anniversary of The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s debut at The Ambassador Theater in Washington, D.C., featuring Fishbone, Nona Hendryx, Ernie Isley, Judith HillLiv Warfield, and Brandon Niederauer “Taz.”View the full calendar here.

Wolf Trap’s Summer 2017 season kicks off on May 25 with a stellar opening weekend featuring performances by Mary J. Blige and Fifth Harmony, and the annual free 2017 Summer Blast Off! with the United States Marine Band and a fireworks show. Tickets for these and other previously announced performances are on sale now. Tickets for all newly announced performances go on sale to members (donors of $75 and up) beginning Monday, April 17, and are available to the general public beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22.

The complete schedule for Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods was also announced. Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods welcomes families, school groups, camps, caregivers, and their young ones, and often serves as children’s first live performance experience. Performances across genres – puppetry, storytelling, dance, theater and folk – occur six days a week from June 20 through August 5. Throughout the spring and summer, Wolf Trap will participate in community events across the region, including Farragut Fridays, Jazz at Franklin Park, and Southwest BID in the District, the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival and Roer’s Zoofari in Reston, and Rosslyn BID in Arlington. These events will feature music, food trucks or concession options, lawn games, and chances to win tickets to performances at the Filene Center.

  • Tickets for newly announced performances go on sale to the public on Saturday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m. Member (donor) presales for newly announced shows begin Monday, April 17.
  • Tickets for previously announced performances are on sale now. Pricing varies by performance and seat location. See performance listings at wolftrap.org or the calendar for individual show prices.

Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, produces and presents a full range of performance and education programs in the Greater Washington area, as well as nationally. Wolf Trap features three performance venues: the outdoor Filene Center and Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods, both located at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, and The Barns at Wolf Trap, located down the road from the national park and adjacent to the Center for Education at Wolf Trap. Wolf Trap’s education programs include the nationally acclaimed Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts, Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods, a diverse array of arts education classes, grants, and a nationally recognized internship program.
