Wolf Trap Foundation Announces First Performances of Summer 2020 at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts

 

Public On-Sale February 22

Additional shows to be announced

  • Chart-topping artists across genres take the stage this summer – John Legend, India’s A.R. RAHMAN, Train, Steve Martin and Martin Short, and The Avett Brothers join previously announced and on sale to the public now – Steely Dan with special guest Steve Winwood, Barenaked Ladies Last Summer on Earth Tour, David Gray and a Wolf Trap exclusive performance by  Brandi Carlile with the National Symphony Orchestra with special guest Tanya Tucker
  • A number of artists make their Wolf Trap Filene Center debuts – including alternative and indie bands The Head and the Heart,  Andrew Bird and Calexico and Iron & Wine, The National, and The Decemberists, Latin pop artists Fonseca & Andrés  Cepeda, classical hip-hop duo Black Violin, English progressive rock band King Crimson, and tribute bands Australian Pink Floyd Show and Yacht Rock Revue
  • Country, folk, and Americana take center stage with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Little Big Town, and an exclusive appearance by John Prine & Emmylou Harris, who are celebrating their respective 20th performances at Wolf Trap
  • Musicals and dance include the Wolf Trap debut of Septime Webre’s ALICE (in wonderland) with The Hong Kong Ballet, five nights of Riverdance 25th Anniversary Show, Richmond Ballet in a fully-staged production of CARMINA BURANA with Richmond Symphony & Chorus, two nights of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, and The SpongeBob Musical, a premiere at Wolf Trap
  • Wolf Trap audience favorites returning this summer include Mary Chapin Carpenter, MAZE featuring Frankie Beverly with debut artist Keith Sweat, Celtic Woman, Pink Martini, Straight No Chaser, Chick Corea & The Spanish Heart Band with special guest Rubén Blades, Indigo Girls and Ani DiFranco, ABBA The Concert,  Goo Goo Dolls, and Ziggy Marley & Stephen Marley, and for a special two night appearance with its Wheels of Soul 2020 Tour, Tedeschi Trucks Band is joined by St. Paul & The Broken Bones and Gabe Dixon
  • National Symphony Orchestra’s (NSO) summer concerts at Wolf Trap include Star Spangled Symphony featuring pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet performing Gershwin’s Piano Concerto, The Planets: An HD Odyssey, and family film nights including Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince™ In Concert, Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert, and The Princess Bride In Concert
  • Wolf Trap Opera’s summer season features Puccini’s La bohème at the Filene Center, Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Henze’s Elegy for Young Lovers at The Barns at Wolf Trap, as well as UNTRAPPED performances which bring opera and classical music to new spaces and unexpected places. The acclaimed American mezzo-soprano, Denyce Graves (‘89) serves as 2020 WTO Filene Artist in Residence

Vienna, Virginia (February 10, 2020)Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts has announced the first Summer 2020 performances at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 22; Wolf Trap members (donors of $80 and up) have access to presales and are beginning to purchase tickets now. Select previously announced performances are on sale now. As America’s only national park for the performing arts, Wolf Trap is deeply committed to diversity in programming, access points for music lovers of all kinds, and affordability. The 16-week summer season at the 7,028-seat Filene Center is made possible through a public-private partnership between the nonprofit Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts and the National Park Service.

Young at Arts, Wolf Trap’s accessibility initiative which offers free youth tickets to select performing arts events, will continue in 2020. A roster of eligible performances will be announced in March 2020.

Additional performances at the Filene Center and Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods will be announced in March 2020.

Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, produces and presents a full range of performance and education programs in the greater Washington area, as well as nationally. Wolf Trap features three performance venues: the outdoor Filene Center and Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods, both located at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, and The Barns at Wolf Trap, located down the road from the national park and adjacent to the Center for Education at Wolf Trap. The 7,028-seat Filene Center is operated in partnership with the National Park Service and annually showcases an extensive array of diverse artists, ranging from pop, country, folk, and blues to classical music, dance, and theatre, as well as multimedia presentations, from May through September. The Barns at Wolf Trap is operated by the Wolf Trap Foundation year round, and during the summer months is home to the Grammy-nominated Wolf Trap Opera, one of America’s outstanding resident ensemble programs for young opera singers. Wolf Trap’s education programs include the nationally acclaimed Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts, Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods, a diverse array of arts education classes, grants, and a nationally recognized internship program.
