Wolf Trap Foundation and Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States have teamed up to leverage the unique power of music in nature to enhance our audience’s physical and mental health.

Total Health Series

As the sponsor of the new Total Health Series at the Filene Center this summer, Kaiser Permanente enriched thousands of concertgoers’ experiences on five show nights with self-care giveaways on the Plaza, including natural bug repellant bracelets, SPF lip balm, earplugs, bags, and healthy fruit popsicles.

Patrons were delighted to have these complimentary amenities available as part of their evening at the Park, and Kaiser Permanente’s friendly community ambassadors offered a warm welcome to everyone who stopped by.

Spin Art at Todo Sonido

At Wolf Trap’s Latin American music festival, Todo Sonido, Kaiser Permanente added movimiento to the música through a special spin-art exercise bike station.

As festival attendees hopped on stationary bikes and pedaled quickly to spin their paper canvases, Kaiser Permanente representatives layered in drops of paint until colorful artwork emerged. These mini masterpieces were hung up to dry for passersby to admire before the artists returned to collect their creative souvenirs.

Kaiser Permanente in the Community

While the partnership with Wolf Trap has only recently begun, Kaiser Permanente has been a committed community partner in the Mid-Atlantic region for many years. Their unique, integrated model of care ensures that their nearly 280,000 Virginian members receive coordinated, high-quality care from top physicians using industry-leading technology to promote health and prevent disease. Kaiser Permanente makes care convenient in the Wolf Trap area, with four nearby Medical Centers: Fairfax (Fair Oaks), Falls Church, Tysons Corner, and Reston, all offering multiple services under one roof.

Aside from their own health care facilities, Kaiser Permanente invested nearly $600,000 in 2024 towards community health work in the state, including grants and donations to local organizations such as the Arlington Free Clinic, Inc., Loudoun Community Health Center, and George Mason University. Additionally, they run a Summer Youth Internship Program that aims to boost the future healthcare workforce and provide real-world experience to high school students in the DC-metro area.

Music, Nature, and Mental Health

While Wolf Trap may not seem like a natural partner to a health care organization at first glance, the connection between the performing arts and public health is quite strong. Kaiser Permanente psychiatrist Dr. Ross Goodwin had this to say on the relationship between music, nature, and wellness:

“Placing ourselves amidst nature provides countless opportunities for peace, connection, and rejuvenation. We can use all our senses to immerse [ourselves] in the natural world around us, to slow down and be fully attuned to the present moment. Creative artistic expression and enjoyment while in a natural environment enhance the richness of those novel artistic experiences, as well as our connections with others.”

We couldn’t agree more about the many health benefits of spending time basking in music under the stars and look forward to Wolf Trap’s future collaborations with Kaiser Permanente!
