Semi-staged performances of two comic operas by composers John Musto (Bastianello) and William Bolcom (Lucrezia), both with librettos by Mark Campbell and scored for five singers and two pianos.  Artists are all alumni of the Wolf Trap Opera Company.

This performance is presented as part of America Sings in the Nation’s Capital: A Festival of American Vocal Music. 

Inspired by an Italian folk tale, Bastianello is a lighthearted parody about love, forgiveness and the trials of marriage.

A riff on Machiavelli’s Mandragola, Lucrezia is a wickedly funny seduction satire.
